Twitter: @aaronsummers88 SUMMERS’ exploits at Premier League level for Edinburgh in 2008-09 attracted the attention of then-Coventry promoter Colin Pratt, resulting in the Australian being offered the No.8 role in the Buildbase Bees’ Elite League line-up.
That coincided with a switch to fellow Midlands club Birmingham in the Premier League, and the nature of the Coventry team in that season meant Summers was able to make several appearances in the top flight despite suffering a broken collarbone in a crash at Somerset on June 25.
He displayed plenty of promise for the Bees with wins at Brandon over the likes of Niels-Kristian Iversen and Matej Zagar, and he picked up 36 points from his ten appearances.
Birmingham’s elevation to the Elite League for 2011 resulted in Summers switching to Redcar, and he was surprisingly overlooked for a doubling-up place in the top league – but a number of guest appearances kept his name in the frame, including both for and against the Buildbase Bees in their late-season challenge matches against Birmingham and Wolverhampton.
He was an early signing for Coventry in a doubling-up capacity for 2012, sharing a team position with Leigh Lanham, and he quickly made the position his own whenever he was available, hitting double-figures in his first two home meetings.
With an all-match average of just under five-and-a-half it was a more than positive first full season in the Elite League, and a return to Brandon for 2013 was always on the agenda, whilst he will continue for a third season with Redcar at Premier League level.
